The Salvation Army College for Officer Training - Atlanta, Georgia
Answering the Call

When cadets arrive at The Salvation Army College for Officer Training, they take a bold step into a whole new life. Leaving the past behind, along with most of their possessions, they look to a future of total commitment, serving God and mankind as Salvation Army officers. As never before, The Salvation Army officer is needed by a hurting world. And never before have so many Christian soldiers answered the call. In response to the largest campus population since the early 1960s, the Board of Visitors - comprised of corporate and professional leaders from throughout the South - undertook a $37 million campaign to meet the housing, recreation, and classroom needs of cadets and staff. In addition to construction projects, the College also established an endowment fund to ensure that the curriculum will keep pace with contemporary academic standards and that the College will continue to operate on financially sound footing.

The largest fundraising effort in The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory, the success of the Impact on the Future campaign has been felt across the campus. New buildings include a married cadet residence, dining facility, wellness center, student activity center, and continuing education center. The College for Officer Training can now meet the ever-changing needs of commissioned officers, cadets, and their families.

What Made It Happen?

The Board of Visitors spent several months reviewing and researching the College's current and future needs. A long-range plan was recommended and the decision made to begin a major fundraising campaign. The Board recognized that the success of the campaign would be crucial to the future of the College, so they took the proper steps to lay a solid foundation. Skystone Ryan conducted a pre-campaign feasibility study and development operations assessment, which led to a multi-faceted campaign that raised $10 million from the Board and an additional $15 million in major gifts. Skystone Ryan also facilitated the College in the formation of a 15-state regional campaign to help local communities raise the remaining funds that were needed to fulfill the College's new vision of service.
