Tampa Bay Research Institute - St. Petersburg, Florida
A Turnaround
What was once an obscure biomedical research laboratory operated by Japanese scientists in the center of a North American city is now receiving worldwide recognition as a leading contributor to research on cancer, AIDS, herpes virus, Epstein-Barr Syndrome, and other immunological diseases and genetic disorders. The turnaround for Tampa Bay Research Institute was guided by its capable senior executives and supported by an American fundraising executive recruited to serve as Director of Development and manage its total development program. They are now being assisted by an American Board of Trustees and Advisory Council, and their active development and public relations committees. As a result, the Research Institute is consistently successful in attracting major grants from U.S. foundations, government agencies and other national and local community sources which were previously inaccessible.
What Made It Happen?
The turnaround for Tampa Bay Research Institute began when the Institute retained Skystone Ryan to conduct an assessment of its fundraising potential. The firm provided a combination of interim management and executive search services to begin the process of building a fundraising and development program. Senior consultants directed the organization of the program, while also utilizing the firm's networking procedures to find and evaluate candidates for the Director of Development position. After locating the best applicant and helping the Institute employ this individual, Skystone Ryan continued to provide assistance during a three-month orientation process.
Now, the scientists of Tampa Bay Research Institute can devote their complete attention to conducting their vanguard life-saving research, confident that the necessary funding will continue to be generated through the Institute's fully operational total development program.
